Back in the day, I never used to pre-order records. It was all about the ceremony (in my head, anyway) of popping down town on the date of release – finding the store that had the record, getting back home and playing it. To me, it was a big deal.
Obviously, thats not as easy now. I work on Mondays for a start and most of the record stores have closed down, but it occurred to me a while back that most of the releases this year (well, the first half of this year) that I am looking forward to are on pre-order via a website somewhere. Me – I am killing the highstreet. Oh yes.
So what are these fine albums?
- Juliana Hatfield Three – via Pledgemusic
- Idlewild – via Pledgemusic
- Fred Thomas – via Polyvinyl
- Mew – via their own website
I’m sure there are others.
It must be bloody difficult trying to run a record store when the bands keep offering better packages and direct to the fans.
Mew is out next week – I am counting down the days.
